So you have been working out for a while now and have toned up your body and gained some muscle and strength but your body still isn’t cut up or as lean as you want it. Your body still has that dreaded layer of body fat hiding all your hard work. What is High Intensity Interval Training?

Hiit training basically is doing high intensity cardio Intervals with short rest in between intervals of 30sec-1min. To give u something to compare it to traditional cardio training would be three miles or 30 minutes on treadmill at a moderate pace and high intensity interval training would be doing quarter mile sprints as hard as you can with one minute rest in between intervals for a total of one mile. But this type of training is very intense you will have to force yourself out of your comfort zone but you will get amazing results.

One of the main benefits of HIIT training is you wont have to work out for as long of aduration in a single workout session. Another great benefit is you will burn up to 9 times more calories and fat during the day post workout. Because HIIT training is so intense your body will use energy through out the day to recover from the workout. This is referred to as EPOC or excess post exercise oxygen consumption and it basically means your consumes alot more oxygen recovering from a HIIT workout then it would have from a regular moderate cardio workout. High intensity interval training also increases the maximum amount of oxygen can uptake during exercise. This means your body will be in better cardio shape to get through that game of football , softball or better adapted to running around all day with your kids. So in less time you will see better results and be in better cardiovascular health then in with traditional cardio routines.
